UHAB

The Five Together Foundation has made an impact investment via UHAB, a non-profit organization in New York City that creates and supports self-help housing, to Lambert Woods, an affordable housing project in Maine. Lambert Woods will be a limited equity housing cooperative incorporating neighborhood amenities at a 13.4 acre site in Portland, Maine. This is a unique opportunity to use an innovative ownership model to encourage a mixed income community with permanent affordability for the maximum number of units and a deeper, more participatory, supportive, inclusive, empowering and educational approach to housing --- a 21st century village. The project will include Maine’s first new construction, high-performance modular limited equity housing cooperative, which will provide a much-needed affordable home ownership option within the City of Portland, and which we hope can be replicated in the future. In addition, the project will provide multiple benefits to the existing neighborhood, including improvement of green space and the potential to offer recreational amenities and neighborhood meeting space.
